Lost Voice Guy Listed in the UK List of the 100 Most Influential Disabled People

12/11/19
Lee Ridley (AKA Lost Voice Guy) is a stand-up comedian who uses a communication aid. The first comedian to ever win Britain’s Got Talent, Lee has gained a reputation for being both very funny and completely unique, which has earned him a place in the list of the 100 most influential disables people in the UK.

Created by the Shaw Trust -  a charity helping to transform the lives of young people and adults across the UK and internationally -, Lee Ridley is listed alongside other 99 remarkable people from all over Great Britain. You can check the full list here

Having performed at The Royal Variety Performance, Live At The Apollo and America’s Got Talent: The Champions, many of Lee’s jokes focus on disability. His signature ‘posh Robocop’ voice captivated Simon Cowell and fellow BGT’s judges and the whole nation.

When asked about his victory on Britain’s Got Talent, these are Lee’s thoughts:

“I’m really glad I won Britain’s Got Talent because success breeds success. It would be nice for every disabled child to realise they have the opportunity to do whatever they like when they grow up. But they’ll only believe this if they see other people in a similar situation achieving their goals. This is why this list is so important.”

The Newcastle funnyman, whose cerebral palsy affects his ability to speak, is the first stand-up comedian to use a communication aid. Right from the start of the competition, Lost Voice Guy impressed and entertained with his comedy routines, spoken entirely through an iPad app. In order to perform, Ridley uses a speech synthesiser upon which he programs his material before selecting certain lines based on audience reaction.

Lee has been performing stand-up comedy for seven years. His first solo Edinburgh Fringe show was in 2013 and he won the BBC New Comedy Award in 2014. In 2019, Lee has completed his first UK tour, published his debut book and performed at the Edinburgh Fringe.
