There are many newer chart topping songs that, in no time at all, will more than likely become staple favourites. Some of the Current Hottest Cover Songs by Our Party Bands are:
Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars
Uptown Funk is a global phenomenon and one of those songs that is set to stand the test of time. Originally released back in 2014, it was written by the British producer Mark Ronson and featured vocals by international superstar Bruno Mars. Why is this song so successful and why has it become one of the most popular cover band songs? Firstly, the fact that Bruno Mars sings this song definitely helped it’s success. He’s a natural popstar, heartthrob and music icon of our generation. And secondly, this is a feel good hit through and through. Sounding nothing like anything that was in the charts at that particular time, Uptown Funk stood out above the rest. Taking influences 1980’s funk and paying homage the greats like Prince and Michael Jackson, the song has a sense of familiarity but the gap of three decades actually makes it sound fresh and new. Up-beat, very positive and easy to sing along to, it is a guaranteed crowd pleaser. It’s no wonder why it is one of the most requested cover songs and even though it was released years ago it is very much top of the list in the most popular cover songs of 2017.
Happy by Pharrell Williams
It isn’t uncommon for songs from films to become classics. Highly successful films have been responsible for generating hit singles or classics songs for decades. The likes of Survivor’s Eye Of The Tiger from Rocky, Bee Gee’s Stayin’ Alive from Saturday Night Fever, Kenny Loggins’ Footloose from the film of the same name and Ray Parker’s Ghostbusters have been, and still are, to this day some of the most popular cover band songs. Pharrell Williams’ Happy is one of the newest additions. Having featured on the soundtrack to Despicable Me 2, the song was immediately subjected to a wide audience. The animated film was aimed, but not limited to, children and younger viewers and with that you can guarantee parents and families will be watching it too. Once released as a single, post-film, it actually became the most successful song of 2014 and, as many party bands will tell you, one of the most requested cover songs.
Happy is a song with mass appeal. It is fun, simple and very innocent and in fact projects positivity throughout its lyrical content. Not too fast and not too slow, its easy-going rhythms and simple structure means toddlers right through to pensioners can enjoy the song and very easily song along to the chorus.
Get Lucky by Daft Punk featuring Pharrell Williams
Pharrell Williams again! You know he must be doing something right if he pops up twice in our selection of the current hottest cover songs by our party bands. This again is one of the most requested cover songs that has been delighting audiences for the last four years yet is still very high on the list of the popular covers songs of 2017.
Daft Punk have always been popular but more so on the underground scene. They have had several flirtations with chart success but it is Get Lucky that made them a household name. Previous singles never became essential cover band songs due to the nature of their instrumentation. Their music is predominantly electronic and therefore difficult to recreate by live musicians. Get Lucky is a far more approachable songs with disco funk origins and Pharrell’s catchy vocals makes the song very memorable. As previously mentioned with Uptown Funk, the style of music is familiar with all audience types but distant enough from its origins that it sounds fresh, new and exciting. The relaxed disco rhythm of Get Lucky makes it perfect for the dance floor. Attendees young and old can get a groove on to this song and if you look around the room you’ll see feet tapping along from those not brave enough to come up and dance. Being one of the best-selling songs of all time shows why this has now become one of the most popular cover band songs and will remain on setlists for many years to come.
These, of course, are just a very small handful of the curent popular cover songs and they join an ever growing list of essential cover band songs. Throughout the last couple of decades we’ve seen a wide variety of songs that regularly feature on our party bands' repertoires. The following, again, is just a small selection.
