A Look At 2015’s Most Expensive Weddings – And How You Can Recreate Them
It’s the most special day of your lives, and so it follows that no expense should be spared in order to make your wedding a totally unique and unforgettable experience. For the average couple, £21,000 is the going rate to cover all marriage costs, but for some, this amount will barely even cover the minor details as they throw the most lavish and extravagant weddings around. Here we take a closer look at some of 2015’s most expensive and exuberant wedding celebrations and show you how you can recreate these glitzy, decadent festivities for your own special day with our wedding ideas and exclusive entertainment.
Angela Yeung, aka Angelababy, & Huang Xiaoming
Chinese actress, singer, and model Angela Yeung, better known by her stage name ‘Angelababy’, married actor Huang Xiaoming in October of last year in an extraordinarily lavish ceremony which cost a tidy sum of roughly £22 million. An incredible occasion, the wedding took place at the Shanghai Exhibition Centre, the façade of which was decorated with the couple’s monogram, a motif which could be seen in various forms throughout the ceremony.
Inside, the venue was decked out from top to bottom in pink and white roses and kitted out with screens displaying photos of the two lovebirds taken during a pre-wedding photo shoot in Paris, throughout which the bride donned several Elie Saab Couture gowns.
The ceremony, which was live-streamed, took place in front of around 2000 guests, with a holographic castle for the backdrop. Angela wore a custom Dior gown, and walked down the red-carpeted runway to the sound of a children’s choir performing Justin Bieber’s ‘Baby’.
The pièce de résistance of the happy occasion though was undoubtedly the cake, an impressive 10ft tall creation shaped like a carousel and complete with a layer of intricate horses, which reportedly took one month to assemble.
Make It Your Own…
In order to bring the splendour of this £22 million fairytale wedding to your own nuptials, incorporate a pastel colour scheme and plenty of mood lighting into your décor, and make sure that there are flowers absolutely everywhere. Fully customisable, this high-quality photo service allows you to tailor the backdrop, props and accessories to the theme of your special day, giving you the chance to bring the French capital – or whatever set up you choose – to your wedding and capture unforgettable moments with ease.

Whilst prints are created instantly, the photos are also available digitally to be shared via social media, giving you the option to display these on screens during the celebrations. As for the holographic castle, which is of course key when recreating the wedding of Yeung and Xiaoming, we have an incredible range of projection services available. Amongst them is our custom 3D video mapping act, a brilliant service that uses state of the art technology to deliver breath-taking visual spectacles tailormade to your exact specifications.
Likewise, our 3D projection mapping service can offer sensational visuals that will amaze guests at your special event, and as well as creating mind-blowing castle graphics they can also provide dress and cake mapping for a truly unique touch! Turning any venue into a fully customisable animated world of colour and shapes, this act is also perfect for emulating the monogram design that was seen throughout Angelababy’s extraordinary wedding.
Another way to incorporate the initials of you and your betrothed into the big day is with our professional ice sculptors, a dedicated team of artists who can provide you with intricately detailed, hand-carved sculptures that will add an enchanting element to the occasion. They can also offer an impressive alternative to the carousel shaped wedding cake, as a merry-go-round carved from ice would certainly make for a show-stopping centrepiece! Lastly, our talented gospel choir are the perfect musical accompaniment to your journey down the aisle, and whilst Angela Yeung may have opted for ‘Baby’ by Justin Bieber for her choral procession, this exceptional group of vocalists are open to requests and will happily learn the song of your choice to ensure that your wedding really is a fairytale experience!
Sabine Ghanem & Joseph Getty
Jewellery designer Sabine Ghanem and billionaire heir Joseph Getty tied the knot in May of last year in a weekend-long celebration that took place in the Italian capital of Rome. Rumoured to have cost around £7 million, the lavish wedding weekend kicked off with a fancy dress fete of which the theme was ‘Liaisons Dangereuses’. An opulent and highly decadent affair, the party saw the happy couple and their guests dress in fantastic costumes reminiscent of 18th-century French aristocracy, and dine on an extravagant buffet of dishes piled high with delicious foods, including the obligatory macarons!
The ceremony itself took place at the Basilica of the Twelve Apostles, and the bride wore a custom-made haute couture gown by Schiaparelli embroidered with giant golden suns, with a hooded cloak in lieu of a traditional veil which also carried the hand-sewn sequin sun motif.
Once the marriage vows had been exchanged it was on to the party, and in the evening guests were surprised with a procession of African drummers who led them in a conga line to the party venue…a bespoke 1900s style circus tent. Here, guests celebrated all night long in the chic circus-meets-cabaret set up, with the new Mrs Getty donning another custom Schiaparelli dress, this one adorned with sequins and feathers.

Noor Fares & Alexandre Al Khawam
Another weekend-long affair, jewellery designer Noor Fares and artist Alexandre Al Khawam were married last June in a beautiful ceremony in Normandy. An explosion of colours, flavours, and flowers, the pre-wedding party had a ‘1001 Arabian Nights’ theme, comprising of a Middle Eastern souk meets Indian bazaar aesthetic, with characteristics of rural India and old Baghdad. Guests were encouraged to dress up in line with the theme and were treated to flower stalls, sweet stands, traditional musicians, acrobats, hand-dyed marigold garlands, fresh falafel and much, much more.
The ceremony took place the next day at l’Eglise Sainte Catherine, a stunning venue dripping with white wisteria, with the bride wearing a custom Giambattista Valli couture gown. The new Mrs Al Khawam later changed into a custom pearl-embroidered Alaïa gown for the lavish evening celebrations, making her grand entrance accompanied by a troop of traditional Zaffa musicians. Taking place around a lake with swans, coloured trees, and atmospheric pink smoke filling the air, the party included performances from whirling dervishes and a DJ set inside an enormous yurt, with giant bubbles and a carousel adding to the festival ambience.
